Looking up a Colombian surgeon in ReTHUS and checking hospital accreditation are useful first steps. They do not by themselves tell you whether a physician has privileges for your specific operation at the facility named in the quote, who administers anesthesia, or what happens if a serious complication occurs. This is the next level of verification, and it should be completed before deposits or flights.
Match the surgeon to the actual facility
Ask for the surgeon’s full legal name, professional registration, specialty credentials and the hospital where the procedure will occur. Then ask the facility itself to confirm privileges for the planned procedure. A surgeon’s impressive website does not establish the capability of every clinic where they may also work.
Ask who leads anesthesia and recovery
The consultation should identify the anesthesia plan, available recovery monitoring and who evaluates risks before surgery. Ask whether there is access to blood products, emergency surgery and intensive care if relevant to the operation. Different procedures require different levels of capability; a one-size-fits-all clinic checklist misses that distinction.
Accreditation needs interpretation
JCI publishes a searchable current list of accredited international organizations. Verify the exact organization and location; accreditation is not a guarantee against complications and does not establish the surgeon’s personal outcomes. Ask the facility for its infection-prevention procedures and how complications are managed or transferred.
Get the plan in writing
Request a clear quote naming the facility, surgeon, anesthesia services, implant or device if relevant, and responsibility for complications or longer hospitalization. Keep direct contact information for both the surgeon’s office and the hospital. If a coordinator resists basic verification, stop and resolve it before making a payment.
- Verify the clinician and specialty with official records
- Confirm privileges directly with the hospital
- Identify the anesthesiologist and recovery setting
- Ask about complication escalation and transfer capacity
- Make the quote name the actual facility and services
The decision, not just the date
Facility credentials matter, but informed consent, appropriateness of the procedure and postoperative care matter just as much. Independent clinical advice at home remains important.

Compare options without guessing
Tell us the procedure, where you are waiting and what timeline you have been given. We can help organize questions to ask potential providers and discuss nonbinding private-care options. No procedure date, price, funding or medical suitability is guaranteed. This is an information and referral service, not a clinical assessment.
